On November 7, 2019, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Barış Alpaslan, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Political Sciences and Prof. Dr. Mine Özyurt Kılıç, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages visited Prof. Dr. M. Öcal Oğuz, President of Turkish National Commission for UNESCO.
During the visit, a possible cooperation between the two institutions in relation to culture, art, research, and education was discussed, and this year 21 March UNESCO World Poetry Day, which was celebrated last year by the initiative of the Faculty of Foreign Languages, ASBU, is to be celebrated with the cooperation of UNESCO and ASBU Global Migration Research Center (ASBU-GAUM). World Poetry Day, first adopted by UNESCO in 1999, is to support linguistic diversity through poetic expression and to increase the visibility of poetry while bringing people together from different continents through poetry. Besides, the event, which was held last year with the theme of “Languages,” is planned to focus on the theme of “Migration” this year.
Furthermore, the process for the establishment of the UNESCO Chair at ASBU was also discussed with the participation of UNESCO Specialist Esra Hatipoğlu.
